Kermodepaw smiled, and tilted his head to look straight up at the cat falling right towards him. It didn't take to much effort to realize that if he moved the kit could wind up injured... and he clenched his teeth ever so slightly as he prepared to be hit by the little bundle of fur...
Suddenly out of the bushes, a streak of silver flashed across the small clearing, leaping through the air and knocking Coalkit out of the air just before the kit could land. "ha! I knew this kit would try to cause trouble!" Mau's figure came into clearer view as he landed and halted his movement altogether, spitting at Kermodepaw as he turned his head to look at his partner. "IT's pathetic that you would let this kit sneak up on you!" He accused, tapping his claws. Mau's eyes darted quickly back from Kermodepaw and Coalkit, sharp like daggers. Who the hell was Kermodepaw to take his prey from him!? The kit was his. "Watch your tail Kermodepaw!" he growled, pivoting as if he might attack the white tom. His silver-purple fur was standing on end and his eyes glittered with hostility.
Kermodepaw instantly got to his paws; extending his claws and bared his teeth. "Like I would ever!" he retorted, snaking his way around the other cat to stand protectively at Coalkit's side. If Mau made a move he would be ready to counter it at a moments notice. Kermodepaw's eyes flashed angrily in warning for the other tom to back down, and he gently placed the tip of his tail to touch the end of Coalkit's, as if to re-sure him that He would be protected...

A small sense of relied had come over the kit when he could see he'd be landing safely on the tom, and that he didn't plan on moving out of the way and let him hit the rock. That relief was stolen from him when he felt something barrel into his side, knocking him off course and smacking him roughly into the ground in the process. He'd meant to cry out, but the impact had knocked the breath from his body, and for the moment it was all he could do to try and suck in air. It must not have taken all that long though, because he could breathe again, if roughly, when he turned to see who'd knocked him out of the air. And he had to suppress a small mewl of terror, having turned just when Mau looked to be pivoting to attack the white cat. But he either didn't have the time too, or he'd never meant to attack him in the first place, because next thing he knew, the white cat was standing between him and Mau. "W-we were.. just playing." Or at least he had been. The whole thing seemed more like a game to him than any kind of training. And to be honest, the way Kermodepaw was with him now, Coalkit wasn't too sure he'd ever try to actually hurt him again. Mau was another story.. He took the chance oft the kinder rogue's protection to get to his paws, standing behind the tom so all Mau could see was what poked out of his face so he could see him.

"Don't start with me Kermodepaw! I know you don't give to mousetails for the saftey of that kit! You want to kill him as bad as I do!" Mau roared, seeming to grow over and above the white tom. Kermodepaw was about to make a retort by Mau cut him off with a snap of his fangs. "You should know better than anyone what the kit's doing here. IT's only perpus is to die at our claws." He hissed. "WE didn't take it from it's clan to... to 'play' with it!"
Kermodepaw growled low and kneaded the groud with his claws. "Mau..." Kermodepaw warned. He clenched his teeth as his temper rose; struggling not to loose himself and to stay composed. If he lost it now, the kit was done for.
Mau laughed. "I can see it in your eyes, you want to sing your fangs into its throat and kill[/]i him!" he whispered, shoving his face right against Kermodepaws so their foreheads were pressed against each other. Kermodepaw's breathing was ragged and his breath washed over Mau's face in staggering rushs of air. "You can feel it can't you?" Mau ventured with a low growl. "Your curse is affecting you, even now. You aren't a normal cat and this kit is nothing more than prey to us..." Mau whispered...
Kermodepaw didn't say anything and again with his tail brushed Coalkit; though this time it was more urgent, pushing him away. "Mau, leave. Now." He growled. His eyes dimmed and Kermodepaw struggled to keep control over himself, extremely tense and ready to unleash himself like a spring is=f he didn't calm down...

Coalkit didn't at all want to listen to this, but he really had no choice in the matter. If he moved, he didn't doubt Mau would come after him. But even now, Kermodepaw was trying to push him away. Why? He was supposed to be protecting him! He blinked at the small realization, that he'd grown to rely on Kermodepaw in just the couple of fays he'd been with the rogues. He felt like he needed his protection. Was it that the rogue actually cared for him, or that he was just weak? Regardless, he was finished with having Mau openly insult him. "I. Am not. Your prey." His voice started low, though grew steadily louder with each word. "My purpose is not to die at your claws. I'll die by my own before I let you take my life." The kit had to steel himself now, forcing all the emotion out of his face, fear, anger. All that remained was his cold voice, and the growing fear he didn't show, that every word was going to bring him closer to death. "Just because your a heartless monster, doesn't mean Kermodepaw has to be." His green eyes flicked to the said cat, unsure if what he said would help, or harm the white cat. He knew it'd harmed himself, and he'd likely be dead soon. But, he hoped his possible last words meant something to him.

Kermodepaw was caught completely off guard when the kit refused to run; rather facing Mau and Kermodepaw felt admiration course through him. Coalkit was truly brave... or... or was he just stupid... "Mau!" he snapped, suddenly turning from Coalkit to Mau, his eyes were back to their usual red. I will protect Coalkit... even if it means fighting Mau... He thought bitterly. He had no uncertainty now and what had been his curse, about to break out; turned into confidence. He shoved Mau away from his face with a thrust of his head, shaking his head slightly and flicking his ears as if to shake Mau's whispers away. "Not I, or you will hurt this kit." He growled. "Now leave or I will kill you." He growled, his white fur standing on end...

Having turned his head away in anticipation for the teeth at his throat, it took Coalkit a few moments to realize, those teeth never came close to him. Chancing a glance back at the two, he found that not only had Mau not made an attempt to attack him, but Kermodepaw seemed to have taken the advantage and pushed him back. He figured if he said anymore, it would just sound awkward, or make Mau hate him all the more, if that was possible. So the kitten settled with fixing a green glare on the tom, as if daring him to take on both of them.

Mau growled low; glaring at the two cats in front of him. "You're not the cat I thought you were Kermodepaw..." He hissed, taking one last look at the kit before turning around. After taking a couple paces he turned his head to look over his shoulder. "However, you cant stop me from hurting that kit; and I'll prove it to you..." He promised, his upper lip quivering slightly as he whipped his head back around and ran off into the trees...
Kermodepaw was tense as he watched the tom leave. He supposed he had expected as much; that Mau wouldn't back off for good without a fight. But the fact that the kit was still in danger worried him. Once he was sure Mau was gone he turned toward Coalkit. "I want to start Battle training." He meowed. He wanted right now more than anything to make sure this Kit would be able to defend himself...

Coalkit tried to keep a glare going toward the darker of the two toms, hiding his fear within beneath an external show of courage. Luckily, it didn't falter until Mau had run off, and he was left alone with Kermodepaw. And, though he would've liked a bit of time to calm himself down, he wanted to thank the former clan cat for standing up for him to his 'friend'. But, the white tom spoke up before he could. "Battle training? Now?" He would've expected him to say something else, but it didn't surprise him all that much. He could hardly stand up to even a clan warrior now, much less a ruthless rogue who wouldn't spare a second thought about tearing out his throat.

Kermodepaw nodded. "Yes, now." He confirmed, turning around. "I'm afraid that we don't have time to train you with the dummies... as I had wanted to." He admitted, flicking his ears and taking a couple paces away from the kit; thinking of what he could possible teach. HE had barley any experience as an apprentice; let alone a mentor, and he wasn't so sure he was cut out for the task. He knew very well he could easily end up hurting Coalkit if he wasn't careful; and as much as he tried to stop the problem, it was always going to be there. "Sorry to rush; but I'm afraid we don't have the luxury of time." He meowed over his shoulder; turning back around to face the kit. His eyes were narrowed slightly and his head was lowered so he could better meet the kits own eyes. "What do you know about combat; off the top of your head." He asked...

"Yeah.. I guess I see what you mean." Coalkit answered on the subject of time, reluctantly glancing in the direct that Mau had left in just moments before. "I.. don't really know that much though." He admitted. Even being the leaders son, he didn't get anymore training as a kit than any of his den-mates. So, in other words, none. "I do know that the belly and throat are weak points though.. right?" He asked, a bit unsure of his own logic. At least, they seemed like logical places to aim an attack, but he knew, at least, that a good bite to the throat could kill. He remembered the injuries Kermodepaw and Mau had sustained while they were still back at his clan.. ad he shivered involuntarily. If he'd lost that much blood, he knew he'd be dead, no matter how strong he believed his will-power, and will to live was. "And.. that you should never turn your back on your opponent?" Of course, that one seemed obvious to him, even without any battle training.

"Alright; another vulnerable part you need to be aware of is an attack from behind. " Kermodepaw meowed. "Like you said; never turn your back on an opponent; but in addition to that; you need to be aware as to what's behind you at all times. Most often; a warrior will have a comrade to back them up if they need it." Kermodepaw added; thinking of how when he and Mau had attacked Brambleclan; they had been attacked from all sides as the clan fought to protect one another. "Alright; I guess it's better for you to learn from experience rather than me telling you everything." Kermodepaw said, shaking the thoughts of Brambleclan from his mind."The most important part of battle is not how to attack; but rather how to avoid and defend from attacks. If your enemy cant land a hit; then you can't loose." Kermodepaw told Coalkit. "Alright; here's how this is going to work. I'm going to come at you... claws sheathed mind you..." He added, taking up a fighting stance. "For the time being, don't fight back." He instructed, caution flashing in his red eyes. "As the exercise continues; it will become more difficult; like your tracking exercise." Kermodepaw told him. "The objective of this? Dont let me hit you. Not once."

Coalkit shuffled his paws a bit nervously on the ground, eyeing Kermodepaw as he spoke to him. He'd always looked forward to battle training as a kit, as just about any of his den-mates would. But, he'd never pictured his training coming early, in something of a life and death situation. "That'll tire them out, right? If they attack and all I do is dodge?" He asked, both because he wanted to know, and because he wanted to put off starting, at least a little bit. He didn't doubt he'd get hit at least a few times, and he hoped the rogue remembered to keep his claws sheathed when he did. He was glad he didn't actually have to fight back yet. He knew there was little chance of him actually hurting the white cat, but he didn't wanna make him mad if he nicked him in the wrong place. "So.. how should we start? And what if you DO hit me?"

"Tiring out a warrior who's ready to fight is easier said than done, as for your second question; If I do hit you; You had better get on your paws before I come at you again. In battle, if you slip up even once, it could be over just as fast." He meowed knowingly. It wasn't so much that he knew this first hand... but he had been the one to take advantage of said slip ups numerous times. Without waiting for a response he tensed a moment before meowing very suddenly: "Go!" Nearly as quickly he leaped forward; he kept his speed lowered as he reached out a forepaw in an attempt to push the young kit over. Kermodepaw could see various ways the kit could escape and he purposely left numerous gaps open for an opportunity in Coalkits favor; but he kept his eyes focused on the bundle of fur before him as he closed the gap...

Coalkit gave a couple of small nods in response, occasionally flexing his claws into the dirt beneath him. Even if he was taking it way easy on him, he wondered if Kermodepaw could keep from accidentally hurting him. That, and what did he mean he'd better get back up quick before he came at him again? Did he plan to hurt him if he got hit? He might've asked, if he didn't look up to see the cat running towards him. Apparently he'd missed the 'Go.' And he would've called something out if he thought it would help, but instead he dove to the side, is light paws sliding over the soft dirt before he turned to face him again. "You couldn't have given me a little more warning?"

"No warning." Kermodepaw meowed quickly as he swept past Coalkit, digging his paws into the ground as he spun around. He gave Coalkit a moment to get his bearings before he went in again, stalking around for a moment to get to another angle before darting in again, crouching lower to the ground this time so he couldn't duck out the side. Again his paw swung out; this time with the intention to pull hthe kits paws out from under him...

OOC: Sorry if this post fails, tired x-x
Coalkit shook his head in the short free moment he had, trying to clear his mind so he could focus only on the training. When he stopped, the white cat was coming at him again, leaving him little time to move out of the way. He did manage to avoid most of the swiping paw, but it caught on one of his hind paws, making him stumble upon landing after trying to jump away from him.

Kermodepaw was impressed, letting his eyes follow Coalkit's movements as he narrowly avoided his blow. His swiping paw landed on the ground out in front of him after barely clipping the kits hind paw and Kermodepaw followed through with the motion; letting his paws carry him a few tail-lengths from Coalkit before turning around to face him. "You need to be more alert that that!" he growled, crouching down, kneading his claws in the dirt. He waited a moment, inhaling deeply. The kit before him was so young... to young to start training by any means; though Kermodepaw couldn't help but be so surprised at how much natural talent he had. Not many kits could do what Coalkit had already shown capable of. "Now for level two!" Kermodepaw meowed sharply, leaping up into the air above the kit; aiming to fall behind him...

Coalkit lowered his ears a fraction at Kermodepaw's growl, whirling around to face the cat before he could come at him again. He wasn't quite expecting him to leap into the air instead of charging at him again. Looking around in a slight panic, the kitten did the first thing that came to mind, something he'd done when play fighting with other kits back home. Rolling onto his back he put his paws out in front of him, in an attempt to catch and toss the rogue when he landed on top of him. He wouldn't realize until after the fact, that the white cat was not one of his denmates, and was far to big for a mere kit to try and throw off. He was more likely to be crushed beneath him.

Kermodepaw clenched his teeth slightly and let his paws stretch out beneath him. It was to late to change his course at this point, and the kit had left himself wide open. Luckily, Kermodepaw had already considered the possibility that Coalkit would attempt such a strategy. With a movement that occurred a moment before Kermodepaw would have impacted the kit, He extended his legs down as far at they would go. With a loud thud he landed with his face less than an inch from Coalkit's; just as quickly running his left forepaw the length of Coalkits underbelly; claws sheathed. "You're dead." He meowed before leaping away agility and taking a seat a tail length away...

Coalkit's green eyes grew round toward the last second, when he realized that the rogue was probably going to squish him flat, letting out a mrowl in anticipation for it, when all that actually happened was the white cat coming practically nose to nose with him, swiping a soft paw over his belly. If that'd been real, he knew he really might be dead. And if not, he'd be in a lot of pain, and bleeding badly. The thought scared him, and he desperately hoped Kermodepaw wouldn't be angry with him for the mistake. Actually, he did something to try andkeep the tom from being mad at him. As he'd said, he was dead, so he'd gone ahead and played dead; legs spreawled out, head turned to the side, eyes closed, and tongue hanging lazily out of his mouth. Maybe if he acter childish, Kermodepaw would take it easy on him...?
