Kermodepaw opened both his eyes suddenly, "You ready to go?" He asked. He had been awake for some time now and Had been waiting for Coalkit to wake up. It seemed not only a moment ago he had opened his eyes for the first time that morning and forgetting Coalkit was there, nearly jumping out of his pelt when the kit moved against him in his sleep. Shuffling, he gently lifted his paw and stood up, stretching and yawning. "If so, follow me, It's a bit of a walk, so we can warm up a bit on the way..." he meowed, leaping down nimbly off the rock, landing in the soft grass without so much as a soft thump...

Coalkit blinked his green eyes up at him when he answered so suddenly, having thought the tom to still be sleeping. "Oh.. uhm, okay." He answered quickly, a little reluctant to lose the warmth of his fur so soon after waking up. "Just, wait up for me!" He called down to him, sliding clumsily down the rock to an even clumsier landing, then scrambling up to his paws to pad over to the rogue. "What happened to Mau?" He asked innocently enough, though his spiteful mind honestly hoped he'd somehow killed himself in the night, or that something had taken his life. He wondered, briefly, where a cat like that went. Certainly not Starclan. "Did he leave?" He continued, only a further attempt to hide his true hopes about the psychotic cat.

Kermodepaw didn't answer. Chances were that Mau went off looking for more cats to torment... he wouldn't be back till he had made a successful kill... "He'll be out by the river for a wile... He drives himself crazy convinced he's being chased my a group of cats..." He explained. He supposed he wasn't really lying, though He admitted to himself that he wasn't telling the full truth... in fact... he was hiding nearly all of it. "We'll take the long route around to the training field. There are all sorts of obsicals left from the forest fire moons ago that we can use to get you warmed up before training." He meowed, turning toward the edge of the clearing.

Coalkit snorted softly, not really surprised that the cat truly was insane. "Maybe Starclan's after him." He suggested bitterly, casting a glare back in the direction Mau had taken off last night. "So, um, what kinda training is this?" He asked as he turned with the white cat, keeping at his side to avoid getting lost. He hadn't wanted to know about it the previous night, but now he thought he should know what he was going to be doing, prepare himself in some way at least. "I mean. . it's nothing that'll kill me, is it?"

Kermodepaw laughed a little. "No, I'm no bloodclan warrior." Kermodepaw rolled his eyes. He supposed it was typical of clan cats to believe that all rogues were hostile... and He guessed that after yesterday Coalkit had more than enough reason to believe the training would be pretty harsh... "It'll be just like training in my old clan. I don't know any other training methods after all... besides the ones I used to train myself." He meowed, leaping a large log and landing softly. "The exception is that I'll be pushing you a bit harder, since you don't have the leisure of time." he added. "You'll need to be able to defend yourself as soon as possible from danger; should the situation call for it." He continued. "Also, you wont be battle training with me, you will have to settle for dummys until your skills have gotten a bit better..." He meowed. Kermodepaw typically trained himself daily; though he was terrified to train with another cat, for fear he would change into his cursed form at the thought of battle. Therefore, he had made cat-like replicas out of tree branches and grass, tying the parts together so they would stand like an animal would, in order to practice his techniques...

"Dummies? You mean like Mau?" Coalkit suggested, making an attempt at humor to lessen the tension that he was sure still hung between the two of them. "Well, then again, I suppose the dummy would shred me." He added, the humor lessening in his voice, though seeming to be struggling to remain. "But, wait." Coalkit paused in his tracks, curiosity now getting the better of him. "The one you used to train yourself?" He asked, trying to do a good impression of Kermodepaw's voice so it wouldn't seem like he was meaning to be too serious. He really wasn't sure if he was either, depended on the rogue's answer. "How did you train yourself then?"

Kermodepaw flicked his ears. "Well for the most part... when I started traveling on my own, I had little to no training at all completed. I had to pick up things as I went." he explained. "When I was attacked by rogues, I would note the techniques they used. Same for clan cats when I attacked them. I even went as far as to look into how animals like foxes and badgers fight; and I would practice what I saw on dummies..." he meowed. "Not Mau." he added with a slight laugh...

Coalkit found himself frowning at Kermodepaw's story, at first believing it to be nothing but lies. How did a cat survive through stuff like that? . . Oh, right, that. . other side of his. "How come you. . change like you do? Why do you get so vicious?" He asked, his curisity again overpowering his judgement, wanting to pry the roge as far as he could to learn more about him. "I mean, can't you control it? It is your body after all." He added, unable to imagine himself being controlled by some unseen force.

Kermodepaw sighed. "Like I said, It's a curse I cant control. It comes up to suddenly, and I can control it only to the faintest extents..." He meowed, clenching his teeth slightly. "Its... really powerful. My parents told me it gets stronger every generation; my own curse is the eighth generation down..." He meowed. "Its supposedly the farthest it's gotten... I honestly don't know much about it..." He concluded. Its... the intense thoughts of fighting, the scent of blood or extreme emotion that set it off most of the time... either that or the passage of time. If I leave it to long It'll come up suddenly..." He meowed. "I'd give anything to control it completely, but my parents wont help me, they'd sooner I'd join them in the dark forest..." After a short pause he added. "You've seen Mau haven't you? The reason he only has one ear... I phased once when I had gone a long time without ... you know... and I lost it on him and tore it right off. I nearly killed him and if it weren't for a crossing badger he would have been killed." He meowed. "That's why he listens to me, I'm one of the few cats he fears... if a cat like him can feel stuff like that. I feel a strange connection to Mau and I would never do anything to hurt him unless absolutely necessarily... but even knowing that I still turned on him..." He meowed. "It's just... " He trailed off, before quickly changing the subject. "ha, sorry I'm rambling aren't I? We"re just about at the training field... why don't you tell me what you can smell?"

Coalkit had listened intently to the rogue's story, for a brief moment feeling as if he were back at home, listening to one of the elder's tales. He was jarred from the small fantasy at the cat's last line, leaving him blinking blankly at the tom. "Oh, um, small, right." He said a little too quickly, arting his jaws to try and breathe in the nearby scents, allowing them to hit the roof of his mouth and reach his scent glands. "Well, umm... All the usual scents. Yours. Mau's, but his is a bit more faded and stale. Umm. . prey?" He finished vaguely, not having yet learned the distinct scents between every piece of fresh-kill.

Kermodepaw nodded. Alright, I suppose that's as good as I did my first go round..." He meowed, not to impressed. "Here, let's try an exercise..." He Started, holding out a paw to the young kit. "Take in my scent and try and track me. I wont go far but I'll be hiding, you'll need to follow my scent to find me." He explained, voicing his idea. "It will be a good way to practice distinguishing scents and follow them, or avoid them accordingly. " He explained with a flick of his tail. He wondered if the kit would be able to accomplish that. He planned to go easy on Coalkit at first and gradually make him work to find him. it would be a good way for the young tom to test his limits in a way that didn't require to much physical activity for either of them - Being as how both still had wounds from the day before to worry about...

Coalkit cocked his head to one side at the idea the rogue had, sounding quite similar to him to playing hide and seek with his denmates back at camp when he was younger. "Well, that shouldn't be too hard." He answered, sounding more confident than he had since he got to the new area. Leaning forward, he sniffed at the tom's paw before he finished speaking, getting a good feel of his scent before he stepped back again. "How big will the area be that you hide in?" He asked, a little curious on the difficulty of the game, or, training session as Kermodepaw called it. Though Coalkit was sure he could find him regardless of the size of area.

"I'll gradually expand the area. It'll become harder as we go along." He meowed, retrieving his paw to his side. "I"m gonna leave now, though I won't be as far as that I can't keep an eye out for you." He meowed with a smile. "Wait a bit before coming after me, if you cheat, I'll know..." He finished, spinning around and bounding away into he trees. Since this was the first go-round, he would just run out in pretty much a straight line, and stand just out of sight before using any tricks to confuse his scent. After thinking about it some more, he had become genuinely curious as to how talented Coalkit would turn out to be. After a short running distance, Kermodepaw felt he was far enough away for the first test. Slowing, he found a branch in a tree that was just within reach, leaping up skillfully and quietly up onto it, turning around and peering around the tree trunk to keep a watch on the young tom behind him...

Coalkit nodded once, sitting back on his haunches to wait while the tom went to hide. "'Kay." He answered simply, looking up to the tom with a bit of a suspicious glare. "Better not jump out at me to scare me!" He called after him as he bounded off. He waited awhile to give him time to hide, and that left himself with time to think. It was kinda funny really. Going from being kidnapped to playing hide and seek with the one that stole him away, disguising it as training. Well, better than doing it with the one that tried to maul him. Which made him think further. He probably had a good chance to run away now, like he could've last night. But the same problem reared it's head. He didn't know the way home. Even if he were going to make an attempt at escape, he should wait until the rogue had moved farther away. Deciding he'd given him enough time, the deep gray furred kit began to follow after Kermodepaw's scent, though, with the little care he'd put into the first test, Coalkit could've just followed the pawprints left in the dirt.

Kermodepaw continued to watch the kit. He seemed to be doing all l right, following his scent with what looked like relative ease. He wondered how long it would take for the kit to find him, though with things at their currently level he didn't expect long...

As he'd expected for the first time, the scent and paw prints led in a straight line for a short while. What he didn't expect was the abrupt cease in his scent and trail. "Where'd he go?" Deciding he couldn't just up and vanish, Coalkit narrowed his eyes and looked around the area. Noone there so.. His ears flicked once, and the black kit looked up into the branches of the tree above, easily spotting Kermodepaw's white fur. "Found you."

Kermodepaw nodded, leaping down from the branch. "Alright good job." he meowed with a smile. "Always keep this in mind, when tracking a scent and the scent suddenly stops; always make sure you check both above, and in special cases, below you." Kermodepaw flicked his tail. "And also, Use your ears if all else fails; even if you can't see or smell a cat, doesn't mean you won't be able to hear them." Kermodepaw paused to make sure the kit was taking all this in. "Alright, I'm taking off again, think about what I said wile you wait." He meowed, turning and running off again. This time he zigzagged himself through some brambles once he was out of sight before nestling himself inside a large hollow log...

Instead of simply thinking about what the rogue told him, Coalkit decided to put the the instructions into action. Ears pricked, he could hear brambles shivering as Kermodepaw darted off into the greenery again. Though the noises did lessen in sound, he could still hear them well enough before they stopped completely, indicating he hadn't gone too far. When all sounds that could've been the older tom ceased, the kit began following after both his scent, and little tufts of white fur that clung to the occasional bramble bush. He continued this until the trail ended, leaving him surrounded by the forest, with nothing but a log standing out, laying against the ground where it must've once stood as a tall tree. Coalkit paused to look up and around, but didn't spot the other hiding amongst the branches. And upon investigation, not in any of the bushes, or behind any of the thicker trunks of the trees. That left the log, unless he'd somehow dissapeared into thin air, or become some kinda mole and dug underground. The former certainly sounded more likely than the latter, so the young tom took his chances with the wooden tube. Padding over to the hollow trunk, Coalkit found that he did indeed pick up Kermodepaw's scent again, confirming his suspicions that he must be hiding inside. But instead of peering inside the end where his scent was strongest, the kitten darted around to the other side. And, once inside, he could see a white tail flicking at the opposite end in the dim light inside. Stifling a small snicker, he started forward until he crouched just behind the white cat. But, instead of calling out that he'd found him again, Coalkit watched the twitching tail, then suddenly grabbed the tip between his teeth, giving it a small tug.

Kermodepaw whipped his head around and snapped back playfully, pulling his tail away. "Took you long enough." he teased, turning his head back around and crawling out of the log. Once he was free he padded around to were Coalkit stood. "Actually, it took less time that I thought it would." He admitted with a smile, nodding with satisfaction. "Alright, I'm going to jump this up a bit, you're going to need to pay close attention to scents and sounds this time around." he meowed. "You've already exceeded my expectations; as a kit with little to no experience before now what you've done is outstanding." he praised. With that, he turned around for the third time, racing off and back into the trees. At first he ziggzagged like he had done before; though he went out of his way to jump up into the odd low tree branch, and crawl under fallen logs. after a short wile, he changed directions completely. He was staying true to his word that he wouldn't leave the kit out of his detection range; circling would be both an effective way to test his tracking skills and stay close to the kit. He made sure he would be downwind with his movement; so that Coalkit wouldn't scent him right off the bat before neatly perching himself on a large rock nestled comfortably between a couple of young trees...

OOC: Sorry it's so long xD
Coalkit managed a small laugh when the cat snapped back at him, surprising himself a little that he knew the other was only playing no, and not really trying to hurt him. The laughter faded to a smile, apparently still glad for the praise he recieved each time he found him. He blinked a bit when Kermodepaw whirled around and took off again, honestly having expected a little more warning before he was left alone again. Repeating the process from before, the kit closed his eyes when the white tom was out of sight, straining his ears to hear where he was going. Again, he seemed to be going further than before, but not quite far enough to be out of earshot. Occasionally the sounds would change, but they never became to far away for him to pick up the sounds, so long as he stayed focused. It came as abit of a shock when the sounds seem to draw somewhat closer again, louder, tough only by a little. Was he coming back? The single question only brought up more. Was he being chased? What if Mau had come back now of all times, when he was utterly alone? His thoughts seemed to stop when the noise finally ceased, leaving him in almost silence, other than the birdsong penetrating the air. He was hesitant to leave the safety of the hollow log, but soon fell into a steady pace as he trailed after Kermodepaw's scent. Again, it seemed to zigzag for a short time, and Coalkit shot his gaze up everytime it skipped, wondering if maybe he doubled back to confuse him and hide on a branch again. No such luck, and the path led him across a few more skips in the trail, as well as under a few odd logs. The kitten began to grow confused when the direction changed, seeeming to him to be leading him back in the same direction. Did Kermodepaw plan to come around behind him? As a precaution, the young tom took to glancing behind him every once in awhile, half expecting the rogue to jump out at him in an attempt to scare him out of his pelt. It was harder to track him in this direction, Coalkit found, now that the wind was blowing away from him. He only had the faint scent trail to go by. And his scent was likely being blown right to Kermodepaw, so he could move if he wanted to, when he realized his follower was coming close. He knew he'd never be able to keep up with the larger tom's stronger, longer legs. So he just had to hope he'd play fair and stay in one spot. After what was probably a few minutes, -though to him it felt like a few hours- He came to a spot where Kermodepaw's scent was strong, even if it wasn't being carried to him on the wind. but from where he stood, he could see no signs of the cat. So, instead of relying on sight, Coalkit left it up to his nose, closing his eyes as he followed after the trail of Kermodepaw's scent. Of course, not watching at all where he was going, he only ended up colliding with a tree when he came close to the source of the scent, stepping back as he shook his head, his vision slightly dazed when he opened up his eyes again. He might've spoken, if he thought there to be anyone around to really listen. But, as he had no real reason to speak, Coalkit went back to focusing on the search. The rogue's scent was much stronger now, though he wondered if face-planting the trunk of the tree had damaged his nose. The trail seemed to stop somewhere around here though, so he decided the other must be hiding up in a tree again. Carefully, he began to scale the side of the tree, slowly, so as to keep himself from falling. And when he reached the first branch, his claws hurt from pulling his weight. There really wasn't much further to go though. It was a young tree, and didn't have that many more branches going up. Much less many more branches that could hold a cat Kermodepaw's size. Making his way up to the next one, he began to wonder if he was really up here at all. But, when his doubts began to climb, he spotted the white fur resting on a rock below where he now stood on the branch. He'd climbed the tree for nothing! But, he wouldn't let it go to complete waste. Maybe he could get the jump on him again. Without stopping to think, Coalkit tensed himself against the branch under his paws. "Found you!" He called from above, giving no hesitation when he flung himself from the tree, planning to land himself atop the bigger cat's body. Only when he was falling through the air did he consider the possibility that if Kermodepaw moved, or if he'd judged his jump wrong, he'd smack into the rock. . .
