Birchgrove was surprised by Larkdawn's presence, but he wasn't one to reject a conversation. As he kept the patrol moving, he thought about the question Larkdawn had poised.
"Well, if I know anything, it's that troubles always rise between clans when there are hungry mouths to be fed. It is entirely possible that the clans could decide to start moving away from the bubble of peace that has been kept for so long. However, should the clans start causing trouble we should be fine. Windclan territory is full of prey that either runs too fast for other cats to find or dig deeper than cats would dare follow. I suspect we'll be left alone and if not, we'll show them that our claws are as sharp as our tongues," Birchgrove told the she-cat. He spoke the final part with a chuckle, a result from reminiscing about the group of warriors he had eavesdropped on at the last gathering. Apparently they had thought that Windclan cats were too stern.
As Birchgrove came to a halt at the final border mark, Birchgrove quickly marked it. The lake was only a hundred or so fox-lengths away. Turning to look back at the patrol, Birchgrove immediately took notice of the rising sun.
"We'll need to move faster if we want to be back by sunhigh. Remember that even though we'll be heading towards the Skyclan border next, make sure to keep your eyes open for any cats venturing by the water's edge. They're fine so long as they're within three fox-lengths but it's always best to make sure. Larkdawn why don't you lead the patrol to the next marker?" Birchgrove suggested.
The next marker was a twisted looking tree, across from the current marker on the Skyclan side of the moors. The patrol would have to move fast if it wanted to get the border marked on time.

Brookpaw's ears drooped a little as her mentor asked if she had scented anything funny. She hadn't been paying much attention when they were led to the next marker. She flicked her tail in wonder, when she remember a weird, musky smell that had been very, very stale. The apprentice's ears shot up once more and she bounced in excitement, ready to impress her mentor. "There was a funny-smelling stale cat scent! It smelled like the cat had rolled in dirt and then rolled in dung and then rolled in more dirt!" she purred excitedly, unaware of how dumb that probably sounded with her tail high in the air. Nothing that Birchgrove said registered in her mind, as she was too busy hopping around happily, ready to prove herself.

Browntail laughed at her apprentice's answer, but there was a very stale cat scent. "Come along, Larkdawn is leading us to the next marker, and like Birchgrove said, we have to move quickly if we are going to make it to camp by sunhigh, " the she-cat said.
The brown warrior stopped Brookpaw from bouncing around and repeated what she had said to make sure the younger cat understood. Then she took the rear of the patrol and started to move at a quicker pace to keep up with the group, making sure her apprentice was not getting off track once again.
The breeze was a bit warm and ruffled her pelt, and Browntail enjoyed the warmth. Birds sang in the distance, and it seemed like the day would be peaceful once again. After a while, she turned to Brookpaw and asked "Would you like to do some fighting practice sometime after the patrol?"

Larkdawn smiled, excited to show leadership skills. She was no apprentice, but that didn't mean warriors weren't tested for certain abilities on occasion.
Nodding, the she-cat quickened her pace to maneuver herself to the point of the patrol. She spotted the gnarled tree, wondering if it had grown like that or if it had been struck by lightning. Either way, it was a creepy sight during the day, and even more unsettling during the night. Along the way, she left the scent of WindClan, letting SkyClan and whoever else dared approach the border that this was WindClan territory. Lashing her tail, Larkdawn remembered Birchgrove's words about showing them who was boss.
After touching the tree, Larkdawn knew they had quickened their paces, as it was still a little bit before sunhigh. Turning to Birchgrove, she dipped her head, relinquishing her lead on the patrol. "I didn't smell anything too surprising. Did anyone else? I could have missed something." She meowed, scanning the group of cats.

The pace was quick, but Birchgrove made sure to stay alert on the way to the gnarled tree. To his right as he followed after Larkdawn was the lake. To his left the moors. Ahead, Skyclan territory. No where near as lush as Thunderclan territory, yet no where near as bare in woodland as Windclan's territory. The environment suited the well bult jumpers, giving them cover and space to jump. As they neared the gnarled tree, Birchgrove began to think of the upcoming marker.
There was only one other marker on Skyclan's border, higher up in the hills. An old collapsed badger den, no longer suitable for living, that was easily distinquishable due to the large indent it left in the ground. Even snow couldn't hide the marker. Seeing as everyone in the patrol had participated in leading the way to a marker besides Browntail, Birchgrove decided he'd let the warrior lead next.
"Good job Larkdawn. I didn't scent anything unusual either. Browntail care to lead the way to the next marker?" Birchgrove asked. His eyes constantly checked the position of the sun and he made sure to wake up earlier the next day so that a border patrol could go out earlier.

"Okay Birchgrove." The brown she-cat nodded to Birchgrove to signal that they were now moving. She started to lead the patrol to the next marker, which was an old badger den no longer in use. As the warrior looked behind her to check if Brookpaw wasn't getting off task, she saw that Birchgrove was looking up at the sun constantly, and decided to pick up the pace. As they started to get higher up in the hills, the breeze got a bit chillier. The sun rising higher, and almost near sunhigh. We'd better start moving if we want to get back to camp in time, assuming nothing would go wrong. Although nothing was going wrong so far, you'd never know what would happen. Something could just come out of the blue at them. Let's hope that none of the clan are going to pull some trick on us.
As the group neared the next marker, Browntail beckoned the patrol to move quicker. Once there, the she-cat quickly and casually marked the badger den, feeling pride in herself. "Okay, I'm done, " the brown warrior stated, awaiting for more orders from Birchgrove.
